Red Palm Weevil Infestation

The Red Palm Weevil is the biggest threat to palms in the UAE. Its larvae feed inside the trunk, so damage is often hidden until the palm is badly weakened. Warning signs include:

• Brown, sticky fluid oozing from holes in the trunk
• Chewed fibres pushed out of the trunk or frond bases
• A wilting or collapsing crown, or fronds that yellow from the centre
• A crunching or chewing sound inside the trunk

Wrong Location

Palm Tree Removal or Relocation — Which Do You Need?

When removal is the right choice

• The palm is heavily infested with Red Palm Weevil or rotting inside the trunk
• The trunk is cracked, leaning badly or structurally unsafe after a storm
• There is no suitable place to replant it and you don't want to keep it

When relocation is the right choice

• The palm is healthy but in the way of a pool, extension or new layout
• It is a mature, high-value palm you would like to keep
• It is too close to walls or pipes but can thrive somewhere else in the garden

Healthy date palms usually relocate well when the root ball is prepared properly and the aftercare is followed.

Palm Tree Relocation — Tools, Heavy Machinery & Process

Relocating — also called transplanting — a mature date palm takes planning and the right machinery. Our palm tree transplanting process in Dubai has five steps:

1. Site assessment — we check the palm's health, height, trunk size, access for machinery and the new planting spot.
2. Root ball preparation — the root ball is cut to the right size for the trunk height. Where possible, roots are pruned 2 to 4 weeks before the move to encourage new feeder roots. A mature palm with its root ball can weigh from about 500 kg to over 2 tonnes.
3. Lifting — fronds are trimmed and the crown is tied to protect the growing point, and the root ball is wrapped in wet burlap. Palms with a trunk taller than about 3 metres are lifted with a crane.
4. Transport — the palm is secured and moved carefully, including any road permits needed for oversized loads on public roads.
5. Replanting and aftercare — the palm is planted at the right depth, staked for support, and given a 6 to 8 week watering schedule while new roots establish.

Palm Tree Pruning, Trimming, Cleaning & Skinning

Pruning and trimming cut back dead, broken and low-hanging fronds so the palm stays safe, tidy and healthy. Date palm pruning is usually done once a year, and dead fronds can be removed at any time.

Cleaning removes dead fronds, old seed pods, dust and debris, which keeps the palm healthy and reduces pest hiding places. Skinning removes old frond bases from the trunk for a smooth, clean look and lower fire risk.
